THE RENEWED BAROQUE MAIN SQUARE OF KALOCSA

After many years of renovation work, the architectural renewal of the historic main square of Kalocsa (Szentháromság tér) will soon be completed. During the 1^st phase of the renovation (2009-2014), the Cathedral of Kalocsa and the new building of the Archbishop's Museum were completed. After that, the construction of a new spectacular porphyry pavement has started in order to replace the old asphalt pavement and to create a new pedestrian area. Following the ongoing archaeological excavations around the church, and the completion of the renovation works in the Hotel Kalocsa, the entire historic archbishop's center will soon receive its new unified image.

The new paving of the square

The North Italian or Trentino porphyry, which is more an more popular in European historical districts, defines the atmosphere and overall image of the entire main square. With its colorful, yet elegant appearance, porphyry paving matches both the yellowish historical facades and the spectacular stone cladding of the new museum building. Due to its physical properties, the new natural stone pavement is a long term solution and provide the 250-year-old baroque city centre an aesthetic appearance.

The porphyry tiles used during the paving construction come from the mines around Albiano in Northern Italy. We can offer tiles, cubes, kerbstones in several sizes and thicknesses. The porphyry paving is deliverd, upon order, directly from the factory of our Italian partner (Consorzio Italiano Porfido del Trentino).
