STONE OF THE MONTH - AUGUST 2019: SOLNHOFEN LIMESTONE QUARRY-ROUGH

30-08-2019

The finely honed Solnhofen limestone tiles have been used in Hungary as floor coverings in many historical buildings for several centuries and has become a typical element of the Hungarian Baroque churches built in the 18th century.

But Solnhofen tiles exist also with quarry-rough surface which do not undergo any surface treatment and are thus 100% natural products. Solnhofen limestone is unique in its traditional manual extraction and requires low energy consumption throughout its entire production process and is therefore of outstanding ecological value.

In addition to the polygonal tiles which are more widely known in the Hungarian market, the quarry-rough tiles are also available in regular square or rectangular forms with calibrated thickness of 10, 13, 16 and 20 mm.

The Solnhofen quarry-rough tiles can be applied for any interior design style thanks to its pure natural yet elegant look. These tiles have a non-slip surface and are therefore well suited for use in bathrooms or wellness areas as well.

The dark patterns on the tiles are the result of iron and manganese oxide precipitations, which make each tile completely unique.
