MARMOMAC 2022

28-10-2022

Facts and figures

The international stone design and technology exhibition was held for the 56th time in Verona, Italy, between 27-30 September 2022.
47,000 visitors from 132 countries and 1,207 exhibitors from 47 countries participated in this year's stone industry trade fair in Verona, where manufacturers presented around 1,200 types of natural stone products and 700 stone industry machines and tools in 10 halls and 4 outdoor zones.

The significant (over 60%) international participation indicates that Europe's largest trade fair for the stone industry can once again play the defining role, what it achieved in the pre-COVID-19 period.

Trends

This year's defining trends were outlined along sustainability and new applications of stone materials:

  • Natural stone is one of the greenest building materials in terms of environmental impact, which is due to the relatively low energy consumption over the entire life cycle (extraction, processing, maintenance, recycling). This favorable feature is gaining more and more importance, as there is an increasing demand for environmentally conscious material selection in architectural projects. In addition, market players are also striving to reduce the ecological footprint of natural stone production with new procedures, such as increasing use of renewable energy sources or recycling of old stone elements (e.g. reuse of old cobblestones).

  • Spectacular new applications of stone, which can make stone coverings even more attractive. Creative surface finishes, new textures and unusual shapes can be found either as furniture or as interior design accessories (e.g. tables, countertops, lamps, vases, etc.). As a result, natural stone becomes an increasingly dominant player in contemporary interior design, breaking with the previous perception that stone can primarily be used as a floor covering.

  • In terms of colors, white marbles and extreme multi-colored onyxes and quartzites are equally popular, but neutral, softer tonations are still in demand (e.g. beige limestones).

  • A spectacular innovation is that not only onyx is used for the increasingly popular backlit stone elements, but also marble or limestone slabs with minimal thickness, special finish or holes.
